Route 141 N is the section of 141 from Gateway up to the Grand Junction area (intersects at 50). This section of road is much tamer than 141 S and can be ridden by any rider on any type of bike. It starts with some reasonable sweepers and a few tighter turns but then opens up and gets fairly straight (but still with nice views all around). The latter section as you get toward 50 (when running south to north) has some even better views and the turns pick back up, linked sweepers that are fun when run at a brisk pace. Be aware of free range cattle on this section of road.
Information included about the Gateway Canyons Resort which although expensive, is a very unique experience if you can swing it. Good restaurants on site along with plenty of activities to be had.
1. CO 141 N
Beginning west of Dove Creek, the highway runs north, then swings east to drop into a canyon and cross the Dolores River at Slick Rock. SH 141 follows the Dolores for a short while, then continues east through Gypsum Gap, then north through Broad Canyon. At a junction with SH 145 the highway turns west through Naturita, then northwest following the San Miguel River to the Dolores River. It continues a winding path northwest along the Dolores to Gateway. There it turns northeast, running through the Unaweep Canyon to the Gunnison River valley where it joins US 50 at Whitewater. The highway heads northwest alongside the Gunnison River, splitting off from US 50 as it nears Grand Junction. It heads north across the Colorado River and ends at a junction with I-70 Bus. east of Grand Junction.[2]
SH 141 between Naturita and Whitewater is part of the Colorado designated Unaweep Tabeguache Scenic Byway.
